Shakespeare’s popular comedy is re-invented for the peace and love generation in this swinging sixties production of As You Like It.

After Rosalind and Orlando fall in love, banishment and fratricidal intentions force them both to flee the traditional and oppressive court. They find a new home in the Forest of Arden, where a flower power community is flourishing under Rosalind’s father, the exiled Duke Senior. Disguised as a boy, Rosalind keeps her identity a secret while tutoring Orlando in the ways of love and testing his feelings for her.

The couple’s exuberant verbal jousting is one of the show’s many highlights, along with the melancholy Jaques’ vision of the seven ages of man, the troublesome wooing of the lovesick Silvius and the scornful Phebe, and the clowning of the motley fool Touchstone.

It’s time to do the hippy hippy Shake-speare.
